Court & Medical Interpretation

The role of an interpreter in court and medical interpretation is to interpret as close to word-for-word as possible.

In medical settings, this is partly to make sure that cultural differences do not effect the message. In some cultures, doctors tell bad news only to family members, and they keep the news from the patient to keep their spirits up. In the US, patients are involved in their treatment decisions and thus need to know their health situation.

In court settings, it is important that all parties have access to individuals' original words so that they can engage their own experts to analyze the intentions behind those words.

In-person court and medical interpretation is currently available in Mandarin and Cantonese Chinese. For tele-interpretation of other languages, please contact us.
